Liu Siyu comes from the Yuanda Shuyang Zizhong Plasmapheresis Center. Apart from being a post-2000s plasma collection nurse, she is also a compassionate plasma donor. These different roles give her different responsibilities and missions, but what remains the same is that these responsibilities and missions are filled with love and sunshine.
How did you become involved with the Center?
I grew up in Zizhong and whenever I passed by the Yuanda Shuyang Zizhong Plasmapheresis Center during my school days, I would always be curious and stare at the various educational posters outside the door. I remember one time when a staff member approached me and told me, "Plasma is a part of blood, and donating plasma can save many lives." That moment, I had a wish: When I grow up, I must come to donate plasma!
I have always believed that donating plasma to treat illnesses and save lives is an ordinary yet great act. After graduating from nursing school, I returned to my hometown and had the opportunity to work at the Yuanda Shuyang Zizhong Plasmapheresis Center. I became a plasma collection nurse, and I have been working there for two years now.
In addition to being a plasma collection nurse, I am also a plasma donor.
As a plasma collection nurse, when I became involved in the altruistic act of plasma donation, I came to understand that every second in this world, someone needs blood products due to severe illness. It could be a child with hemophilia who is unable to run freely, a person seriously injured in a traffic accident, or a postpartum mother experiencing profuse bleeding. These patients all require blood products to treat their conditions and save their lives. Behind each vial of blood product, it takes not only a safe and professional pharmaceutical system but also the selfless contribution of countless plasma donors. I am happy to be able to help others within my abilities, which has further strengthened my long-term commitment to plasma donation.
What people and events have left a deep impression on you in this line of work?
Several plasma donors I have served have left a deep impression on me. Like other young people from small county towns, they ventured out and sought opportunities in coastal cities as part of the wave of migrant workers. However, they never forget their hometowns, families, and the importance of helping others. Whenever they return to their hometowns, they come to the Center to donate plasma, showing their unwavering commitment.
Working at the Center for two years, I have found it to be a place filled with love.
Because of my dual role as a nurse and a plasma donor, I can better understand the feelings of the donors. By paying close attention to details and providing dedicated service to the volunteer donors, I have made many friends among the volunteers. In addition, the Zizhong Plasmapheresis Center also provides scholarships for impoverished college students and improves the educational conditions in rural areas with underdeveloped schools. The work that plasma donors, collection station staff, and I do is meaningful and helpful to others. It is a job where we are needed and can make a difference.
As a plasma collection nurse, I believe that the platform of the Center is progressive and inclusive. It is filled with love and hope. It is also a place where I can pursue my dreams, and the future holds great promise.
As a plasma donor, I am one of the countless caring volunteers. We come with love and offer our most beautiful compassion to patients suffering from serious and rare diseases.
